Mountain Bluebird
(Sialia currucoides)
This Mountain Bluebird male in 'striking plumage' carries a meal
for his nesting family.
Facts: Size is about 7" (18
cm). The male is pure sky-blue above, paler blue below, with a white abdomen;
the female is similar, but duller and grayer.
The mountain bluebird breeds in
high mountain meadows with scattered trees and bushes; in winter it descends
to lower elevations, where it occurs on plains and grasslands. |
