Mountain Bluebird
(Sialia currucoides)

This Mountain Bluebird male in 'striking plumage' carries  a meal for his nesting family.

Facts: Size is about 7" (18 cm). The male is pure sky-blue above, paler blue below, with a white abdomen; the female is similar, but duller and grayer.

The mountain bluebird breeds in high mountain meadows with scattered trees and bushes; in winter it descends to lower elevations, where it occurs on plains and grasslands.
